Company Profile

Company Overview

Argonne National Laboratory is one of the U.S. Department of Energy?s largest research centers. Argonne occupies two sites. The Illinois site is surrounded by forest preserve about 25 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. The Idaho site is located about 50 miles west of Idaho Falls in the Snake River Valley. Argonne has four major mission areas, each of which fulfills important governmental and Department of Energy responsibilities, as well as provides important benefits to our society at large. They are: conducting basic scientific research in the physical, life, and environmental sciences to further our understanding of the world we live in; operating national scientific facilities to advance scientific leadership; enhancing the nation?s energy resources; and developing better ways to manage environmental problems and promote environmental stewardship. We also help train nearly 1,000 college graduate students and post-doctoral researchers every year as part of our normal research and development activities.

Argonne is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by The University of Chicago.

Argonne is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity in our workforce.
