Company History
Founded in 1985, AOL was the first consumer online service, and has continued to be a leader on the online services market. AOL was the first to include an instant messaging service, the first to include Parental Controls, the first with “anywhere” e-mail, and the first service designed specifically for broadband consumers. Today, about 30 million people around the world count themselves as AOL members. AOL members are active and engaged in the service, sending roughly 450 million e-mails per day, about 1.5 billion instant messages per day. Nearly 170,000 chat rooms are open on the service every day.
