supporting the health care industry. With a

physicians. Together with customers, Cardinal
Health makes health care work better.
With its broad product and service offerings and
extensive expertise, Cardinal Health offers
customers practical approaches to address the
most critical issues affecting health care: cost,
time-to-market, talent shortage and medication
safety.
Company History
Our story began in 1971 – with our founder, CEO
and Chairman Bob Walter – a man with a vision who
founded a food distribution company. By 1979,
however, the food-distribution industry had
consolidated into a few large national players,
limiting the company's growth potential.
Walter and his partners turned to pharmaceutical
distribution, an industry that had yet to
consolidate and whose principal service offered
strong growth prospects. The company purchased a
drug distributor, and became known as Cardinal
Distribution. Soon it was recognized as a leader
in pharmaceutical distribution. Since then, we
have built our capabilities over the years in a
number of areas critical to health care -- and we
changed our name to Cardinal Health. We’ve
transitioned from being a first-class collection
of leadership businesses in health care, to a
first-class, integrated and highly collaborative
provider of services to the health care industry.
Today we hold a market-leading position in just
about every business we are in. We are setting a
course to demonstrate what one company can do to
help improve health care.
