Founded in 2005, Emergency Medical Services Corporation (EMSC) is the leading provider of emergency medical services in the United States. EMSC operates two business segments: American Medical Response, Inc. (AMR), the Company’s healthcare transportation services segment, and EmCare Holdings Inc. (EmCare), the Company’s outsourced facility-based physician services segment. AMR is the leading provider of ambulance services in the United States. EmCare is the nation’s leading provider of outsourced emergency department and facility-based physician services.
Annually, EMSC provides services in approximately 14 million patient encounters in more than 2,100 communities in 42 states.
Company History
Emergency Medical Services Corporation (EMSC) was created on January 31, 2005 when an investor group led by Onex Partners LP, Onex Corporation and members of our management team purchased American Medical Response (AMR) and EmCare from Laidlaw International, Inc. The Company issued an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in December, 2005, and its stock was subsequently traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “EMS” until May 25, 2011. On that date, EMSC completed its merger with an affiliate of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, LLC, a leading private equity firm.
AMR
AMR has more than 50 years of operating history and is a leader in the ambulance services market. AMR expanded its lines of service with addition of an international EMS division in 2005 with the formation of Global Medical Response (GMR). AMR acquired Air Ambulance Specialists (AASI) in 2006. AASI arranges domestic and international fixed-wing air ambulance service. By acquiring AASI, AMR now offers a full spectrum of ground and air-based emergency medical transportation options. Today, AMR is a leader in the emergency medical services sector which is known for implementing and providing the industry's best practices.
EmCare
EmCare was founded in 1972 and is the leading provider of outsourced facility-based physician staffing and related management services in the United States. EmCare is a leading provider of physician services for emergency departments, inpatient physician services, inpatient radiology management programs and anesthesiology services. EmCare’s success is based on its commitment to quality physician leadership backed with comprehensive support programs that allow physicians to focus on patients and quality clinical medicine.
