Company Overview

The Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) is located 1.5 hours outside of Kathmandu in Nepal. Commencing in 2002 with a $10,000 budget, two staff and two patients SIRC set out to address the unmet needs of people with SCI in Nepal. A condition that disproportionately affects the poor it has devastating physical, psychological, social and economic consequences and very often those who are injured have a slow death draining the household of its assets in the process.

Today SIRC is recognized as a national rehabilitation centre by the Government of Nepal, which provides capital and operating costs to SIRC annually. It treats and rehabilitates 51 patients at any one time and over 1000 people have received rehabilitation at the centre. It has benefited from regular training and capacity support from the region and internationally and regularly holds training programs for government and NGO staff. A recent development has been the MoU with NHTC to conduct specialist short and long term courses in rehabilitation for all levels of health professionals.

SIRC is well on its way to becoming a training, resource research and model rehabilitation centre.
